Montepulciano and Pienza


Montepulciano and Pienza are two very close towns in the province of Siena, in the very heart of tuscan countryside.

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (red wine) is produced in Montepulciano, a town which is also famous to be a spa town and where popular movies as "Under the tuscan sun","twighlight", and an "english patient" were shot.

If you love architecture and Art, come to Montepulciano known as the Pearl of the 1600s, to visit the Duomo Cathedral (XVIIth century), the Piazza Grande (XIIIthcentury, thmain square in the town centre) with Palazzo Comunale (XVth century) and Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi (XVth century) the church of San Biagio (XVIth century), the church of St. Francis (XIIIth century)

Pienza is the biggest town in Val d'Orcia. It has been inhabited since Roman times but it became much more important after the Middle Ages and boasts a wonderful pure Renaissance town centre, the best in the world. Pienza is a Unesco World heritage Site.

If you stroll into its picturesque alleys, you can buy typical renowned tuscan food like Pienza pecorino cheese, genuine olive oil, wine, handmade pasta and can be stuck by the meanings of Via del Bacio (kiss street) and Via dell'Amore (love street) 

The Duomo Cathedral (XVth century), the church of St Francis (XIIth century) an historical building, the former complesso olivetano a Camprena in Sant'Anna a Camprena (XVIth century) and the parish church (pieve) Santi Leonardo and Cristoforo in Montichiello (XIIIth century) are the most remarkable religious sights.

Palazzo Piccolomini (XVth century) Palazzo Comunale (XVth century) and Palazzo Vescovile (XIVth century) with its museum diocesano d'Arte Sacra (sacred art) are worth mentioning, not to be missed at all.
